Final Reflection

I learned a lot during this class. Before coming into this class I pretty much knew nothing regarding technology. I could use facebook and email and could search somewhat efficiently although half the time I wouldn't be able to find what I was looking for. I now am able to do a variety of things, even make movies and upload them to youtube! That was probably the most difficult assignment for me, youtube was difficult.
I think I will probably use some forms of technology in my class. I will most definitely let my students know about google docs because I think it is awesome, I would also be interested in having my students create a psa like we did for a healthy lifestyle. Pedometers are not something we talked about in this class but they are a form of technology that would be very useful in my classroom setting. I also think there are some phone apps that would be useful that I would encourage my students to use to enable a more active lifestyle.
This class has done some for the way that I view teaching. In the majority of my classes in high school the only use of technology was powerpoint which I am not the biggest fan of. In college it has been pretty much the same adding in blackboard and whatnot. I think that technology is a wonderful thing even though we don't always get along. This course has helped me better understand it and work with it more easily. Technology can be very useful in helping students get the most out of their education, even in the physical education setting. It is there for our benefit and can be used for good or for bad. It is my plan to use it for good in my class.

Studio Code Reflection

During this project I have learning a lot about my management and instruction while teaching. For the most part there is a lot that I can improve on and work on to make my teaching more effective and efficient. My use of equipment throughout the lesson is good and helps to move the lesson along. Signals used are good and effective in getting the students attention. Demonstrations were a little weak and they could use improvement. I use when I say go a lot and it is effective in maintaining control of the students. I did demonstrate cues but as I was coding my lesson I feel that there should have been more instances where I could have coded giving and repeating cues.
As I teach next semester I plan to be more conscious of my use of jargons. I say you guys a lot and I feel that if I am more conscious of this in the future I will be able to cut it out of my teaching vocabulary. I will make my demonstrations more frequent. Demonstrating as I walk around the class in order for the students to have a clear idea of what it is they are supposed to be doing. As I demonstrate I will repeat the cues. Cues should be repeated very often.

studio code

I put my video onto studio code. My first attempt I aborted because i couldn't figure it out. However I did get it done later on and it actually didn't turn out to be that hard. I think the hard part is going to be actually coding it. We shall see how it goes this week.

web 2.0 and Facebook

I think that some cool 2.0 web tools that could definitely help to further education are google docs, this site is very helpful in getting together with classmates and working on assignments. It could also be used as a teacher in working on things outside of the classroom setting. Another website is PE central which is a very good tool for teachers in the physical education setting. It gives great ideas for different situations and allows you to share ideas on the website as well. Students would be able to go to this site to look at things that would seem interesting to them and let their teacher know.
I had a friend a couple years ago who had a class where they were required to use facebook in their assignments. They were put into groups and each group created a person that was relative to the topic they were discussing, I believe it was a religion class (so each group chose a person from the scriptures and made a facebook page with their name and information and all that type of stuff correlating) then the groups were required to write to each other, making sure to keep with the scenario. I think this sounds like a good way to use facebook in order for kids to learn new information about someone and share it with others.

Okay so apparently it didn't post, since the video is not working. So I looked at youtube and I guess it is still processing it even though it's uploaded. Hopefully it will finish soon because the lab is closing.

Yay! it worked! So this movie wasn't all that bad making, it was more of the uploading that I had mass frustrations with.

The link to look at Krissy's video is krissyple.blogspot.com

I really enjoy both of our movies and hope you do too!

THE MOVIE!

okay so after 5 times of trying to upload this video to youtube I finally did it. So here it is, hope you enjoy.

Movie movie movie

Because I was having so much trouble finding children to use for my movie I decided to change my approach. My theme is fit for life so I am showing people who are being active in different activities. I can't get my video to upload onto youtube, it's taking forever!

PSA

I am having trouble finding a child for my video, I need a boy around age 10. Also I'm not sure how to do the split screen, I may have to just do one section and then the other.I think I may end up changing my video storyboard. Also how do you do the credits?

Internet Safety

After researching about internet safety I started to pretty much freak myself out. I realized that there is so much stuff that I put on the internet that could potentially be dangerous. As well as that once you put the information out there it is pretty much out there forever. It got me to start thinking about the information I have out there. It has come to my attention that there are things that need to be changed. I took my last name off of my blog and changed other settings to private.
I think that having a basic understanding of the fact that predators do use the internet to find victims is a very important thing. Although the internet is a very helpful tool in finding information it can also be used for finding information for the intent of malicious acts. When you realize this you will be much more careful in what it is you are willing to put out there on the web.
As I was researching the subject many things came up on internet safety having to do with protecting yourself from the content that will appear when you are searching the web. There are different settings you can set on your browser to help filter out both images as well as words that may be offensive and you’d rather not stumble across. That is something I wasn’t aware you could easily set to your computer.
A lot of the information was for helping to protect your children, but I think you could pass along that information to friends as well as younger siblings in order to help them remain safe. It talked about things such as keeping your computer in a central area, using control settings such as the ones I talked about above, protecting your password (don’t give it out and make it something people would be able to guess), don’t open email attachments from people you don’t know, and communicate responsibly (pretty much if you wouldn’t say it to someone’s face don’t say it through some type of media or electronic communication).
I taught my little brother who just turned 18 about internet safety. I gave him advice and tips. He didn’t really say anything about it and probably thought I was being over-protective and stupid about the whole thing but I’m sure eventually he will realize that I know some of what I’m talking about.

Finished Class Website

My website is http://sites.google.com/site/iloveschoolkrystalee. I had a really hard time figuring out how to make my P.E. calendar public because it wasn't showing up when I wasn't logged in. I also had trouble with my syllabus' but I finally got it figured out somehow. I liked putting in the gadgets. I changed my picture on the home page by changing the saturation to 20 in order to make the raft and jackets more red and the temperature down to -26 to make the water and sky bluer. I also sharpened the image to make it stand out more.

Class Website

What are all the little things we are supposed to add on to our website? The little gadget things? where are they at and how do we do them? I think right now things are going pretty well with my website, but I need to do some more work on it. Hopefully I can get it how I want it by next week!

Helps with Website

As I have been working on my website I have found that a lot of the things are a lot easier than I was anticipating. However, I am stuck on a few things. I don't know how to put in a calendar, I know you go to insert and click calendars but do you have to make it before? And if so how do you do that? Also I need to move a page that I have already created, I have it as it's own page on the sidebar but I want to move it to a subpage under the homepage and cannot figure out how.

Copyright Laws

I'm still not really sure what to think of copyright laws. I think they definitely have both pros and cons. I think in the case of education they are pretty helpful. They allow for teachers to use materials that they need without overdoing it. It also makes it so that teachers won't be wasting time in classes by showing things that are longer than necessary. They also place lots of restrictions which can be very annoying. I think overall they are for the better in protecting peoples time, effort, and work that they have put in.

New Resources

I thought that by far the resource that we have talked about that was the coolest was google docs. I have shared this information with many of my friends since class last week and it seems to appear that I am the only one who did not know about it! I think it is a great resource to use for my students to be able to communicate with each other and organize their lives. It will help me to further my tech knowledge simply by causing me to use technology for more than just typing papers.

My Experience with technology

I don't really have any experience with technology or computers or anything like that. I don't have a computer of my own so come to the library or a computer lab any time I need to do homework or type. Usually the only thing I ever use is Microsoft word, email, sometimes blackboard and facebook. Occasionally I will use a search engine or something of that sort for help with an assignment. Pretty much I am lost when it comes to computers so I am excited but also nervous for this class. This blogging thing is quite the event for me.
